This post coincides with Day 4 of my Instagram Challenge. Follow along as I post 31 days worth of tips for a more healthy, natural life.
For those of who have followed for a while, I love my essential oils. I use them on a daily basis, from diffuser blends and hair care, to dish soap and laundry detergent. One of my most versatile blends is Thieves, backstory and recipe which you can read about here. (TLDR: thieves uses a blend of naturally disinfecting oils, the antimicrobial properties of which are fantastic for replacing chemical-laden household cleaners.)
The Thieves cleaners I use serve two purposes: Basic cleaning and sanitization.
The first, for basic all-purpose cleaning, contains castile soap, which is an olive oil based soap used for hundreds of years. I purchase mine from a local manufacturer in the Carolinas (aptly named Carolina Castile) and I highly recommend them. I buy literally by the gallon and use their basic soap as a base for many of my recipes.
The second cleaner I use is for sanitizing. I’ll use this on surfaces, toys, or in other instances in which soap may not be the most practical option. This one contains one of the world’s oldest sanitizers: alcohol. My favorite to use is vodka, because it’s colorless, odorless, and mixes well with the oils. I always have a bottle of cheap vodka under my kitchen sink, for cleaning, sanitizing, etc.
The recipe for both of these is so ridiculously easy you’ll ask yourself why you haven’t always been using it, especially when you realize how many other household cleaners this can replace. Since many store-bought cleaners contain harmful chemicals, artificial ingredients, and are even potentially carcinogenic, I think the extra effort to mix up a bottle of Thieves is well worth it.
To begin, start with mixing up a batch of the oil blend, the recipe for which can be found here: Thieves Oil Blend. I like to make about 4oz of this blend at a time, which I keep in a separate dropper and add as needed to the cleaners. Careful not to make too much though: oils to spoil over time and a little can last a long time.

Isn’t that easy?
